    • OBITUARY.- Departed this life on the 16th day of June, 1878, Martha -- Collier, wife of Luther Collier. She was the daughter of Dr. Benj. and Elizabeth Carter; was born in Trigg county, KY., Oct. 11th, 1842; was raised in Indiana; moved to Trenton in 1855 and was married in Trenton, March 27th, 1863, where she has since lived. She was emmersed into Christ in her fifteenth year. Tho, brief as her life was, she spent a score of years in the Saviour’s work. She was one of the excellent of the earth. Her real worth was only known by those who were acquainted with her inner life. Her chaste, delicate modesty secluded her from the public. Her influence, like that of her Master, worked as leaven. Being unselfish, kind, hospitable and amiable, she was a great favorite both in and out of the church.
For 24 days she bore her illness with christian composure. She said she was not afraid to die, but on account of her husband and children she desired to live. After bidding all adieu, she drew her little prattling son to her and with difficulty, uttered her last words: “May God bless his little soul!” May little Luther ever revere this blessing of his dying mother.
Thus, in the prime of life and in the meridian of usefulness fell one of the purest and noblest beings of earth—an affectionate wife, a devoted mother and an exemplary christian. Sister Collier was the mother of six children, five of whom remain to mourn, with their heartstricken father, their irreparable loss. May our Heavenly Father strengthen them in their sad affliction.
