  • Notes
    • (Research):Although Benjamin Carter's diary indicates that in 1840 Elizabeth (Betsy) was living in Laramie Township (Cleaveland), Tippecanoe County, Indiana, at the beginning of the year, I have been unable to find them in the census. I have read Tippecanoe County, page by page and have not be able to find the Carter family. I can find the "Pippin" that the diary mentions, and it is clear that these families probably live close together.

These records are from a self-published book called "Varied Miscellaneous Whitefield Records". The original source and compiler are unknown. The records were hand-transcribed onto notebook paper, which was photocopied and bound into a hardcover book. Pages were not numbered. Families were arranged alphabetically, marriage intentions were sorted chronologically. Much of the information agrees with the information that I already had from the Benjamin Carter diary and related papers.
