Benjamin C. EDDY[1]

Male 1837 - 1901  (64 years)

Personal Information    |    Notes    |    Sources    |    Event Map    |    All

  • Name Benjamin C. EDDY
Born 25 Jul 1837  Tippecanoe County, Indiana Find all individuals with events at this location  [2, 3
    • Although some other information indicates that Benjamin Eddy was born in Arkansas, I believe the birthplace of Tippecanoe County, Indiana is more likely to be correct. The notice of John Eddy's death indicates that he did not move to Arkansas until "last winter", i.e., the winter preceding November 1838. It is possible that Benjamin was born during the move to Lawrence County, Arkansas, but it does not seem likely that he was actually born in Lawrence County, Arkansas.

    • According to The Southwick Genealogy, page 244: "He [David Southwick, Frances' father] started with his wife for Lafayette, Indiana, to visit their daughter; on reaching Waterford, Erie Co., Penn., his wife became sick and after a year's illness died there. He afterwards married at Benson, Vt., Mrs. Mary Stacey, the widow of his wife's brother, Jan. 23, 1825."

Frances and John Eddy were in Indiana by 1818 and moved to Tippecanoe County, the county Lafayette is in, sometime after 1820. None of David Southwick's other daughters lived in Indiana, and they appeared to remain in the New York/Vermont area. One daughter, Malinda, eventually ended up in Illinois, but that move appears to have occurred long after the 1820s.
